Repent and Be Baptized

When the apostle Peter delivered his sermon on Pentecost, he was not the man who had denied Christ three times. His strength came from knowing God had forgiven him, and he had gone to become one of the apostles whom Jesus had used to grow the church.

“Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’ And Peter said to them, ‘Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’”

(Acts 2:37-38)

After having repented, Peter had received the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised us also the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father would send in Jesus’ name and would be with us forever. Through repentance and baptism, we would receive Him.

Repentance is recognizing we have done wrong to God by not obeying Him and asking for forgiveness for those wrongs. By this, we open our hearts to Him and turn away from our sins, doing good always and not wanting to commit the same sins any longer.

Let us therefore look to God for the strength that the apostle Peter had when he stood in front of a crowd of thousands to proclaim Christ. Through God, all things are possible and through Him, we no longer ought to be afraid of the penalty of sin.

Repent and be baptized.

  1. Good day Pastor Flacco,

amen to this message. A powerful reminder to us all…

We may not be able, in fact that is what God prefers, to make it clear… it is not our work, but the DIVINE WORK OF THE HOLY GHOST.

about a month ago.. I read the flowing scripture for the first time.. or I should say.. it stood out like a mountain for the first time.. and it has been a point of. huge emphasis all month long… and. continues to be.

    Act 17:11

11 And God gave Paul the power to do unusual miracles, 12 so that even when his handkerchiefs or parts of his clothing were placed upon sick people, they were healed, and any demons within them came out.

    Hebrews 2:4

4 God always has shown us that these messages are true by signs and wonders and various miracles and by giving certain special abilities from the Holy Spirit to those who believe; yes, God has assigned such gifts to each of us.

    PURE TRUTH.

God can, will, and does ENABLES US, to equip us to carry out HIS WILL to being Him Glory, amen!

  2. Actually, Jack, I believe the RC Church has misappropriated Peter’s status from the days of Gregory who was the first to declare himself “pope.” Peter was not the rock on which Jesus would build His church; it was Peter’s declaration, “You are the Christ, the Son of God.”
Jesus used word plays on several occasions and this was one of them: “ὅτι σὺ εἶ Πέτρος; you are Peter, the stone” ,,, “kai ‘ἐπὶ ταύτῃ τῇ πέτρᾳ… and upon this rock, the boulder…”
But what a challenge you give! Repent and be baptized!! We need to share this with everyone we meet!

    1. C.A., thank you! After much prayer and study, I’ve changed the article to reflect the proper interpretation of scripture. I am grateful for having learned this truth through your insight. God bless you always!

      1. Thanks for changing it. C. A. said it more overtly than me, I was trying to be somewhat diplomatic. Its all good. Yeshua’s Blessings on you and yours.
